It was the late evening on what had been a pretty average day so far, Athren had spent a little time investigating the USD base and getting together their schedules, hours of operation, when they went into a state of minimum manning and so much more. He was studying them thoroughly to ensure that he'd be as prepared as he could for what was to come, though he also needed to make sure he was growing stronger himself. He knew he had a lot of work to do for this job and it was almost too much preparation but he wouldn't let that stop him from a little bit of downtime. With how busy he had been, he wanted to do something entertaining, it didn't even have to be something beneficial to his assignment, simply something fun for him.
At the moment he laid back on one of the couches in the living quarters of the ship, his hands folded behind his head as he glared up at the ceiling. The two brats had been asleep already and he had no further responsibilities tonight. The options had rung through his head on what he could do. Go adventure, take a swim? Hell, maybe even spoil himself with some drinks? He didn't really know. The one thing that was fact, was that somebody had crept into his mind and managed to stay there for a brief period of time, maybe going to see her was an option? He thought about it, he debated it and just as he was coming to a conclusion he found his thoughts interrupted.
The interruption came in the form of a sound, the door to the room sliding open followed by heels clicking along the floor. "Heya Boss." The door had slid shut as the heels came to a stop near him. "I figured you'd like to know, a bunch of new contracts have come up anonymously on our server for this Planet. They're pretty low paying jobs but the tasks seem easy enough, You want to take a look through them or would you rather me pass it along to some of the others?" The voice came from Flo as she extended the tablet she was using towards the saiyan warrior. Flo had been one of the earliest members of the faction. She was one of the technical ones on the ship, she always made sure all electronics and devices were up to date. She had been one of the most trusted members of Athren's crew, she was also pretty handy at treating wounds too.
Athren couldn't help but give her a smile and turn his head towards her as he lifted himself to sit in an upright position. "Honestly you couldn't have picked a better time, coming in clutch to save me from all this boredom." He said with a chuckle. "Let's see what you got, shall we?" He said with a smile as he gently took the tablet from her hands and began to read through some of the offers. "Let's see.." Athren began swiping his finger alone the tablet to read what was there. "We've got people requesting assistance with construction.. People looking for a thief, monster hunters.." He trailed off as he continued to look.
"It really isn't like you to sit in like this and just lay around." Flo asked, digging a little bit as she rested her right hand on her hip as she starting making small talk with her old friend. "Something on your mind or just feeling a bit out of it tonight?" Her eyes looked upon the fighter before her as she awaited an answer.
Before responding to her words Athren would've read a job and quickly tapped the accept button. The way this worked is that there was a server where people could request and accept jobs anonymously while transferring funds immediately. Sometimes offers would go up with a name for credibility and factions would accept with their name for credibility purposes. In this case, as soon as the job was done, one would just have to hit complete and it would be reviewed. Once reviewed, payment would be confirmed. "This one looks rather entertaining.." He trailed off before his eyes met Flo's. "Kids are asleep, I've scouted and trained a lot. Just.. taking a break for an evening I guess, Nothing too crazy." He shrugged his shoulders as he turned off the tablet and handed it back to Flo.
Accepting it with her right hand she held it tight against her chest. "Just out of curiosity.. This wouldn't have to do with the woman that Cress has been on and on about, would it?" She couldn't help but giggle, "It just seems strange, some new girl shows up and suddenly you're a little off balance. She must have been a real looker." She chuckled.
At this point Athren would've slowly rose to his feet and scratched his head lightly. "It's got nothing to do with her specifically, more what she had offered the kids." Of course, this wasn't the full truth but good enough of an answer for now. "She might've given Cress a solid opportunity and I'd like to see her take it. It's just.. hard to trust people, especially with what we're about to do on this Planet. I don't want to have Cress get attached just for us to leave."
Flo had nodded her head, "I suppose you're right but look at the bright side, After this we'll have more than enough for you to retire and we can finally settle down and live that life you've always wanted for them, for us. You're doing the right thing boss, for all of us." She couldn't help but give Athren a reassuring smile now, she knew through Athren's positive attitude and confidence, he had sometimes doubted his decisions.
Athren nodded his head, "You're right, we're almost at the end. We can focus on us, It's.. right there but.. I'm going to go deal with this job." He walked passed her and towards the door, it sliding open slowly, though he couldn't help but stop. Flo on the other hand simply turned her head when she heard Athren stop. "By the way, She's got a rocking body, like solid. Hell, even you'd be all over her." He said with a chuckle before exiting the room and having the door sliding closed behind him.
Flo couldn't help but chuckle, they had a really solid relationship. A few flings in the passed but their friendship had developed so much further passed that. "I swear, that boy is going to get himself into trouble one of these days." She shook her head lightly before getting back to work.

Athren of course didn't take too long to get ready, in all honesty he kind of rushed himself. He didn't want to linger around much longer and he just really wanted to get out and do something with his night, distract himself from the thoughts that had been rushing through his head. Sometimes being the leader of what he called a large faction wasn't exactly the easiest, he had way too many choices to make and had to try to do the absolute best for his crew and most importantly, he needed to make the best decisions possible for his kids while keeping them all safe. Not only did he want everybody safe and healthy but he wanted everybody genuinely happy and that was a task that was difficult in itself.
It didn't take much time for him to be airborne flying towards the destination of the job. The location of the job was Poco Poco Volcano village which was located at the base of the volcano itself. Athren wasn't exactly an engineer or a professional at building and design but something gave him the idea that it probably wasn't the best location for a village? If that Volcano actually erupted, surely the entire population of the town would be wiped out but hey, he wasn't exactly going to argue with the villagers about it. Their problem, it wasn't his!
The Volcano was located on an island in the southwest sea, the darkness of night had made it difficult to see but he was heading in the right direct. He flew as fast as he could, he wanted to get there and see exactly what this threat was about. He had genuinely been curious as to what had been killing off and attacking the villagers, maybe if he was lucky. It would even give him a challenging fight, that was something he'd really go for about now.
After flying in the right direction for a little bit of time Athren would finally see the shape of the Volcano in the distance and as he drew closer he could see the village lights, though they weren't modern. The light being immited wasn't from electricity and light bulbs but the crackling of bonfires and torches. A large group of the villagers had been having a drink together in the middle of the town and it had seemed like the best place to get answers as to what he had to deal with.
Athren landed near the villagers rather slowly and calmly and once he was noticed the villagers spooked up and seemed to be rather startled. "Relax, Alright? I heard you've got some kind of an issue with a monster attacking you guys or something? I'm here to put an end to it." His ocean blues looked around the environment, what he could see was multiple buildings completely burned to nothing and a crusting black residue from dried lava. He wasn't quite sure how lava burned them without trails leading from the volcano but it wasn't really his concern at the moment. Athren had crossed his arms and awaited and answers from the group, all they really had to do was point him in the right direction.
It was at this point that every single villager began to go to their homes except for a single, elderly man. He rose his shaking hand to point a single finger to the top of the volcano. "It laid dormant for years in the lava, when it woke up it began to wreck havoc on our people. You'll find it at the top." It was at this point that the elderly man began to walk to his own home, slowly but surely.
At this point Athren arched his brow curiously, I mean that wasn't much to go off of. "Uh, That's all you've got for me? Really?" He stated as he watched the elderly man ignore him and enter his home with the door closing behind him. "I guess that's all." Athren then mumbled to himself as he looked up to the mountain top. Though the volcano wasn't flowing, he could see the orange light emitting from the top, surely he'd find his answers there, thankfully he wore his short sleeves, he had a feeling that things were about to get hot.
Taking flight once again Athren flew himself to the top of the volcana and landed upon the ridge to the large opening. Far below he could see plenty of edges and places to stand but at the bottom was the extremely hot and bubbling lava. He couldn't really begin to think what was even going to be up here, was this all just a joke? It had to be too hot here to sustain any kind of life. There was no plants and no animals, surely there wasn't a creature that could endure such heat, could there? Regardless of what he believed, he was here now and knew he had to investigate. After all, he'd only get paid upon completion of the job, so some sort of creature had to be brought down and killed.
Jumping off the ledge Athren landed upon the next landing lower, and then the next, he continued to jump to all the solid landing spots until he got to the very bottom of it all. He was next to the lava and got a really good look at it, it was the first time he'd ever seen something like that so close up, it was surely an experience. He scanned around with his ocean blues, looking for any kind of dwelling that a creature could live in but the fact was, there was just nothing around, no homes, no caves, it was just the large pool of lava. He couldn't help but wonder if he was just being played at this point.
"Alright, What the actual hell?" He mumbled aloud as he looked back up to the entrance. Maybe he was wasting his time after all, nothing appeared to be here.

It was then that a voice had echoed throughout the Volcano, it had been deep but feminine. It was filled with anger, regret and hate. The voice felt like a darkness had loomed over it. It was almost eerie, almost chilling to the bone. "So the people have found their champion? Their savoir, the one to put all their hopes into to save their pathetic lives?"
Athren couldn't help but arch a brow as his ocean blues looked around. He couldn't tell where the voice had been coming from and he couldn't sense anything either. What was up with this planet having fighters he couldn't sense? This was going to make two of them. "I wouldn't so much say a champion, More like somebody who likes getting paid." At this point Athren had taken a few steps back, positioning himself so his back was closer to the walls of the Volcano, he wanted to keep whatever it was in front of him until he could identify what he was dealing with. He didn't need to deal with any more surprises than what he's already experienced. "Why don't you come out? Afraid you won't be able to kill me like those villagers?" He questioned in a taunting tone of voice.
The lava had started to bubble and shift as the voice grew louder, "A champion of the people, a proud warrior or a mere mercenary for hire. All will fall before me and the people will face my justice!" If Athren would've bothered to investigate what she was saying, he'd quickly learn that she was the last of the lava elementals, or at least one of the last. Her people once resides here many, many years ago and were wiped out by the first humans that decided to reside here. They had nearly brought her group of Lava elementals to extinction and she was the last of them. She just wanted them to suffer, she wanted them to feel what she had felt all those years ago.
Regardless, Athren really didn't give a shit what her story was. He was here for the money and that was really the end of it. "Listen, I'm kind of on a short time frame and want to get this over with so, Why don't you come on out so I can put you in the ground and collect? C'mon, make it easy for me." Athren said with a tone of confidence, even if he was getting tired of this whole back and forth. He just wanted to fight.
Of course the Elemental continued to speak instead of showing herself, that would've made the situation in favor of Athren's wants. "The people wiped out my kind, they killed my brothers my sisters, my family and my friends, I am the last of us. Does that not matter to you?" Questioned the elemental.
Athren couldn't help but shake his head and sigh, "Listen, I really do not give a shit about it. If anything I'll be doing you a favor, your race is going to be extinct when I'm finished here, your life is no more than the amount of zeni they're paying me, So why don't you come out here and accept your fate?" His words were rather cold and mean but it didn't matter, he wasn't paid to be nice, he wasn't paid to pick sides. He accepted a job and it needed to be done. That was the bottom line. Morality didn't come into play and he didn't really care whether or not he was on the wrong side of history, he only had a few more jobs left until he was done, fully retired, ready to put it all behind him and focus on a much easier and simple life for his kids.
At long last there had seemed to be some kind of action going on, the lava started to bubble more frequently. It had almost seemed like the volcano itself was about to erupt. At this point Athren would've taken his fighting stance, he really wasn't sure what he was in for but he knew that something would be coming soon. He needed to be prepared. It was about to pop off.
The Elemental had begun to control the lava with her abilities, it began to sploosh around inside the volcano, it bubbled and boiled and began to burst shots up every few seconds. It would appear as if the saiyan had gotten on her nerves. "How DARE you come into my home and threaten me with extinction, How dare you stand with those who wiped out my people!" It was at this point that the middle of the lava began to sink ever so slightly and she began to emerge from it slowly. Her figure was covered in lava, he was rather tall and slim but she had a very odd sense of dangerous to her. It was something that Athren had never seen in his life and he wasn't even sure about how to handle the situation, but he'd have to adapt and overcome, he didn't really have much of a choice.
Now that she was finally emerged and ready to fight, she had pointed at Athren and snickered. "You're going to die here, I promise you that you will never leave this place. After your fate is sealed, I'll finish off the villagers now that I've fully regained my powers."
Athren gazed upon her with an arched brow as he tried to think of a very quick battle plan. Maybe he should keep this fight at a distance? Obviously he wouldn't want to get caught by the lava and she looked as if she was covered in it. Maybe he wouldn't be able to physically harm her or get near? Whatever he was about to do, he'd need to think of the plan fast, because there wouldn't be enough time to think it all out! Regardless, he leaped forward and took to the air to begin his assault!

As Athren flew closer the Elemental whipped her hair towards him once with plenty of force, he simply manouvered himself mid flight to twirl around it though along with the loud SNAP it had made, it had also managed to whip some balls of lava towards him too. He raised himself quickly to get out of the way before darting towards her once again. This wasn't exactly his offensive plan, this was simply him testing the waters to see exactly what it was that he was up against and what kind of abilities he may have been dealing with. His powers were rather common, he wasn't anything out of the ordinary and any strong fighter could theoretically do what he was capable of. As Athren had been approaching once again the elemental whipped her hair at him one more time and with it flung more lava his way, though this time she lifted both of her hands outwards and lifted balls of lava with it, she began to fling them at him rapidly. "I told you, You're going to die here!" she exclaimed as she tossed them towards the saiyan. Athren on the other hand once again stopped his approach, he darted upwards once more and began flying circles around the inside of the volcano, flying higher and lower rapidly to dodge all of the incoming attacks. It was pretty clear at this point that she was a ranged fighter and Athren was going to somehow need to find a way to get through that range and attempt a melee assault or he'd have to counter with his own ranged attacks even if it wasn't his style. Even though he was already pretty warm given his location, he really didn't want to get right up and close to the lava. It was literally her element, she had all the advantages there and it would be easy to catch him off guard, especially considering he had absolutely no knowledge of her abilities. Even under the pressure of the assault Athren kept his cool and remained focused, he continued to fly around rapidly avoiding all the attacks she had thrown his way. For a brief moment Athren had decided to stop, he unleashed his power and no longer kept his suppressed. It was at this point that he simply just slipped and dipped out of the way from the incoming attacks. "You're going to have to do a lot better than that to kill me!" He exclaimed as he slowly tried to move himself forward. It was at this point that the elemental had shot both hands forward, instead of a barrage of lava balls, she now fired two consistent beams of lava towards the saiyan warrior. Athren of course began flying around again, dodging them as effectively as he could. Even having the lava as close as it was to him, he could feel the temperature rising. He really didn't want to get any of this stuff on him, he knew he'd be alright, he just didn't know exactly how badly it would burn. "Urgh!" She grunted as she was getting annoyed by his quick maneuvers and his ability to stay out of harms way. This had been going on for a few minutes and Athren really wasn't quite sure how to break through and do some damage though he made a quick assumption and came up with a concept. What he wanted to do was remove her from the volcano and get her over the ocean, he'd try and blast her into it as a finishing blow. The question would be how the hell would he manage to do that if he couldn't get close enough. "Just DIE already!" She exclaimed, it was obvious that she had never faced somebody above the average level of human if simply flying around was getting on her nerves, at this point she stopped her lava beam and dropped both hands before quickly lifting them up forcing the lava beneath Athren to blast up towards him, of course though he quickly twirled out of the way before glaring at her from his hovering position. "You're far too slow! How the hell do you expect to hit me with those speeds?" Athren couldn't help but taunt her, he wanted her to start making mistakes, he wanted an opportunity to get her off the lava base. He had thought about hitting her with a massive Ki blast but he didn't want to risk having the Volcano going off, after all if he killed the ones who hired him. Surely he wouldn't get paid. It was then that she extended her arms and created two large lava whips, each extending from both of her hands. She began walking towards him on top of the lava as she whipped at him, one and another. She was closing the distance to make the travel time faster and making them harder to dodge. Athren of course just kept up, ducking and slipping under each and every one of them, as she drew closer and closer, they became slightly harder to deal with but that really just made it all the more fun, but this entertainment had caused Athren to make one error. He got too caught up with how easy it was, he failed to see when one of the whips cracked against the molten rock above him. By time he heard the noise of a large boulder falling he was barely quick enough to hover out of the way but at the exact same moment he felt one of the whips tightly constrict around his ankle. "This is where you die!" In one swift movement the elemental shifted her body and turned, her arm swinging widely from behind her, over head and in front of her, whipping the saiyan down and splashing into the hot lava. The elemental smirking as she retracted both of her whips, she was thinking that it was over. "You shouldn't have come, foolish boy."

Finding himself under the lava he was actually surprised it didn't hurt at all, mind you he was a hell of a lot stronger than it was. It was really his first experience with lava like this, he had known about it and seen it from a distance on other planets but never found himself this close to it. Now that he was underneath it, it had just felt like he was in really dense water. It was in this moment though that he realized his mistake had given him the perfect opportunity to strike and finish this quickly, there was no chance she'd expect an attack from below. Surely, she'd expected his fate to be sealed right about now. He could easily catch her off guard.
At this point Athren centered himself and took a moment to prepare for his attack, it wasn't going to be punches or kicks, it wasn't even going to be ki based. This attack was going to be nothing more than a grapple and a relocation. Blasting out of the lava Athren would've wrapped both his arms around the elemental tightly, "It turns out, I don't burn like that." He said with a smirk as he blasted upwards towards the entrance of the Volcano.
The elemental screamed quickly as she was taken by surprise, she felt the saiyan's arms wrap around her tightly as she was brought to the air. "Let go of me!" She wiggled and squirmed to try and escape, she even tried to grapple Athren with the lava but it was too late, he was already too high up for it to reach him quick enough.
Exiting the volcano with her in his arms Athren would have immediately shifted directions, he began to fly straight out to the West and over the ocean, considering the island was rather small it wouldn't have taken him too long to pull this little trick off. "Let's see how you make out in another element, yeah?" Athren exclaimed as he released his arms to drop her far above the ocean. "And why don't you take this with you!"
"Grrrah!" In one quick movement, Athren spun himself around as an orange ball of Ki formed in his right hand, upon completing the spin he would have launched his attack downwards at his target. "NOVA CANNON!" He shouted loudly as the attack flew rapidly towards the descending elemental.
The orange ki blast had lit up the night sky and of course it had made it's collision with the target. It pushed the elemental down faster and harder than before until both had collided with the ocean's surface with a big splash! Athren watched as the light from his attack went deeper and deeper, slowly fading from his sight before he finally saw the explosion from it colliding with the bottom. He couldn't help but give a little smirk, though there had been a small error, the whole situation had gone rather well, and he would call that the conclusion of this little job. "Well, that had gone rather well." He mumbled to himself quietly.
Now it was time for him to head back to his ship and collect the funds, all in all it was a pretty easy little job to do and gave him a little bit of entertainment for a friday night, there might've been better things to do but at least he got himself paid and hell, maybe they'd even ship a little bonus in given how rapidly the situation had been dealt with. It was a quick and clean job with absolutely no collateral damage, no awareness brought to himself or his faction by any potential threats, it couldn't have been any more successful, besides maybe him avoiding getting caught off guard but it wasn't a fatal mistake, just a tiny one!
At this point it was time to head back, Athren had blasted off towards his ship to confirm the contract had been finish. Hell, maybe he'd actually kick back and relax too and gave a few drinks with some of the crew or maybe he'd blast off to go see what the Planet had to offer for a Friday night.
Who really knew what the rest of the night would look like, all he really knew right now was that he was kind of grateful for the limited amount of excitement he got from this. It had briefly took his mind off all the concerns and questions he had rushing through his head, it gave him an adrenaline rush and something external to focus on, it was a real stress relief for him. If only he could manage to have something like this occur often, or maybe he'd just need to seek out more low level contracts on Earth until he was ready to do the big one? Whatever he was going to do, he knew he couldn't just focus on work or the kids anymore, he really needed to start doing stuff for himself. Even if doing stuff for himself could bring up potential conflict for himself and the job, after all the more people who talked to him and he let into his life, the higher risk of failure for everything else going on.
